Hola amigos.
It’s another completely beautiful weekend in Madrid!! I could get used to this fantastic weather. :)
Just to let you know what I’ve been up to the last few days, here’s an organized list:
· On Thursday, I had my presentation for Art History. I took my class to the Biblioteca Nacional (National Library) and the Plaza de Colón, a plaza dedicated to Christopher Columbus (Columbus = Colón in Spanish). I was unnecessarily nervous for the presentation, but I couldn’t help it. I hadn’t really done too much work or preparation, but everything went well and they seemed to like it. The façade of the library is actually really cool, and I like knowing the meaning behind it. If you want to know more about it, ask, and I’ll teach you!
· Yesterday, I met up with my friends at school and then we walked to Plaza de España. Most people got Chinese food for lunch, but I got ice cream. :) After chilling in the plaza and exploring the little market there, we went to an awesome bookstore. It is a coffeehouse/bar on the first level and an English bookstore in the basement (with 20,000+ books). I could have spent hours in there—most/all of the books were second-hand, which I love. Those books were all loved by someone before me, and now it’s my turn. There’s something cool about the life of a book, don’t you think? Anyway, after browsing for about an hour, we made our purchases. I ended up with 3 books for only 9 Euros—what a deal! And I’ve actually already finished one of the books… I love reading!
· When I got home yesterday, I got to Skype with Brittany for a bit, which was great. It’s so nice to talk to people from home.
· After dinner, I went over to Victoria’s and we had a movie night with Kara and Lisa. We watched Remember the Titans. Good times.
· Today, Victoria and I met Kara, Lisa, and Liz for lunch at T.G. I. Friday’s. We wanted to go early, so we got there at 11:30. But they didn’t open til 1 PM. Fail. So, we chilled in Plaza de España until the restaurant opened. Victoria and I spent most of the day lying outside—before and after lunch. It was wonderful to just lie outside, relax, and read a book (the book that I finished). I definitely got some color today too!
Well my time here in Spain is winding down. One week of classes, then a week in Rome, last week of classes, and then finals. It’s so close, but sometimes seems so far away. Leaving will be bittersweet. I miss many things about home and the U.S., but I know I will miss Spain and the people I have met here. But I will keep in touch. As I get older, I realize how important relationships are, and the little things I do to maintain a friendship can really affect someone’s life. Pretty cool.
That’s all for now.
All my love,
E
